What is Bohemian style and why decorate a 5-star boutique hotel in this style?
You might have heard the terms ‘Bohemian style’ or ‘Boho-Chic’, and thought that it’s just another way of saying ‘eclectic’. While you wouldn’t necessarily be wrong, there’s a lot more to Bohemian style than just that.
At Mont d'Or Bohemian House our entire hotel is decorated in Bohemian style. When you first walk in you might get the feeling that the place was decorated by a group of travelling gipsies. Vases, artworks, chandeliers and carpets – each with its own unique feel. It can be quite a lot to take in at first – especially if you’re not familiar with the Bohemian ethos.
The word “Bohemian” comes from the French word for “gipsy,” and it is generally used to describe those who live unconventional (usually artistic) lives. Bohemian style is characterised by vibrant colours, collections of unusual objects, and very interesting mixes of seemingly mismatched themes. On further inspection, you would find that these items are not just interesting (and sometimes strange) pieces of art, but that they have a story behind them.
All of these eclectic items in our humble abode at Mont d'Or Bohemian House have been collected by our founders along their many adventures across the world. Each item has its own story and has been carefully selected, transported and placed to mean something to you as the guest.
It’s not just the communal areas that are refreshingly bohemian. Our founders have put a lot of thought into our uniquely decorated rooms too – each with its own special theme ranging from French impressionism to Egyptian textiles. Each room has an en-suite bathroom and a carafe of Cape Port welcoming you to the Mont d'Or Bohemian House experience.
So, if you’re looking for something different the next time you need to book a stay in Pretoria, why not give our bohemian oasis a try and experience the wonderful combination of Boho-Chic and supreme, five-star luxury.
